Ingredients

3 cups cooked pasta (penne or fusilli work great)

1 lb ground beef (or ground turkey for a lighter option)

1 medium onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 can (15 oz) marinara sauce

1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes, drained

1 tsp dried oregano

1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

1 cup ricotta cheese

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat Oven: Start by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Cook the Meat: In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef. Cook until it is browned, breaking it apart with a spoon as it cooks to ensure even crumbling. Once browned, drain any excess fat.

Sauté Vegetables: To the skillet, add the chopped onion and sauté for about 3-4 minutes, or until the onion becomes translucent. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute, stirring frequently until it just becomes fragrant.

Combine Ingredients: Pour in the marinara sauce and the drained diced tomatoes. Sprinkle in the dried oregano, red pepper flakes, and season with salt and pepper. Allow the mixture to simmer for approximately 5 minutes to let the flavors meld together beautifully.

Mix Pasta and Cheese: In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked pasta with the meat sauce mixture and ricotta cheese. Stir thoroughly until the pasta is evenly coated.

Transfer to Baking Dish: Take a greased 9x13-inch baking dish and spoon half of the pasta mixture into it. Evenly sprinkle half of the shredded mozzarella cheese on top. Layer with the remaining pasta mixture and finish by topping it with the rest of the mozzarella cheese and the grated Parmesan cheese.

Bake: Cover the baking dish tightly with aluminum foil and place it in the preheated oven. Bake for 25 minutes. After that, carefully remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbling and turns a lovely golden color.

Garnish and Serve: Allow the pasta bake to cool for about 5 minutes before serving. If desired, garnish with fresh basil leaves. Serve warm and enjoy this delicious and comforting dish!
