Ingredients

1 lb (450g) chicken breast, cut into strips

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 cup panko breadcrumbs (for extra crunch)

1 large egg

1/4 cup milk

1/4 cup Dijon mustard

1/4 cup honey

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp onion powder

1 tsp smoked paprika

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp black pepper

Cooking oil (such as canola or vegetable oil, for frying)

Instructions

Prepare the Chicken: Place the chicken strips in a mixing bowl and set them aside. In another bowl, whisk together the Dijon mustard, honey, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper until well combined. Pour half of this honey mustard mixture over the chicken strips, ensuring they are evenly coated. Allow the chicken to marinate for at least 20 minutes for enhanced flavor.

Set Up Breading Station: Arrange three shallow dishes: place the flour in the first dish, the egg and milk mixture (whisked together) in the second, and the breadcrumbs in the third.

Bread the Chicken: Working with one marinated chicken strip at a time, first dip it into the flour, making sure it is well coated. Gently shake off any excess flour. Next, immerse the floured strip in the egg mixture, allowing any excess to drip back into the dish. Finally, press the strip into the breadcrumbs, ensuring an even coating. Place the breaded strips on a plate or a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Heat the Oil: In a large skillet or frying pan, pour in about 1/2 inch of cooking oil and heat it over medium-high heat. To test if the oil is ready, drop a small piece of breadcrumb into the oil; if it sizzles immediately, the oil is hot enough for frying.

Fry the Chicken Strips: Carefully add the breaded chicken strips to the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry them for approximately 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they turn a beautiful golden brown and achieve a crispy texture. Once cooked, use a slotted spoon to transfer the strips to a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.

Prepare the Honey Mustard Dip: In a small bowl, mix the remaining honey mustard mixture with a bit more Dijon mustard and honey, adjusting the flavors to your liking.

Serve: Plate your crispy honey mustard chicken strips and serve them with the delightful dip on the side. Enjoy these delicious strips warm for the best experience!
